    5Dimes Professional Review

    By Kris Takahashi

    5Dimes - Registration

Hitting up 5Dimes, I was disappointed to find the main page of the site looked fairly second-rate. There are far too many colors and flashing ads, which only serve in camouflaging the actual links. There is also a strange picture of a football player in the corner, giving a stiff arm about three feet off the ground. Apparently this player plays against midgets.

After finally finding the register button tucked away between some poker chips and a large cash graphic, I registered for an account. One aspect that immediately struck me as odd is that rather than give the user the option of creating their own user name, the site assigns a special nine character ID consisting of numbers, letters and the formula for time travel in an '85 Dolorian (I made that last part up). In any case, after trying desperately to remember my user name and slamming my laptop to the ground in a fit of rage, I found that the "Forgot Your Username?" link has instantly become my best friend.

    5Dimes Forums

5Dimes has a link to their testimonials, which consists of various anonymous users raving about the site. In fact, some people were so enthusiastic in their praise as if it was a life changing event, which immediately raises a red flag. For example, one of the sites that is listed as praising them has an advertising partnership with 5Dimes. However, if you actually go into forums, the users do have some issues with 5Dimes ($500 deposit limit, slow on Sundays, horrible bonus payouts).

    5Dimes - Deposits/Withdrawals

The most important part of getting started with any internet bookie is getting your dough and clams in the account. It's how you make bets, how the house does business and it makes everyone happy. And thus it is highly out of the ordinary whenever a site makes it increasingly difficult for me to give them my money. For 5Dimes, I found that in order to make a simple credit card deposit, I first needed to contact the accounting department and get an approval. While wondering if the folks at Olive Garden would make you fill out a form every time you wanted pasta via credit, I decided to pursue other avenues. It turns out that most of the alternate forms of deposit are through third parties like Neteller, Western Union, Prepaid ATM and the always dependable mailman. And unless you are already enrolled in one of these services, guess what that means? More registrations! Hooray!

    5Dimes - Customer Service

5Dimes customer service was friendly, answered all my questions. Answered the phone quickly too. The man sounded quite pleasant, considering he answers phones for a living.

    5Dimes Wagering

Contrary to the 5Dimes main page, there is a lot less confusion and little nonsense. The page is structured almost exactly like the big boards in Las Vegas, which make it easy to see the lines if you'e an experienced bettor. Of course, the disadvantage being that if you'e unexperienced, reading the board and the various acronyms (o,u for over/under) may be a little bit difficult. Another plus is the option of betting on the team total, which many sites do not have. Yet the most compelling option that 5Dimes offers is action point bets, which allow you to make or lose more money depending on how well your team covers a spread. On the other hand, despite being easy to read, navigating the site is far from user friendly. Every time you want to see the lines on a particular sport, you have to check a box on the top of the page, then go down to the refresh button and click again. Do TV's have refresh buttons when you change a channel? The teasers and parlays are on separate pages and the more you browse the more you find yourself looking at a giant internet scantron. I can just see myself trying to get in a bet before game time, only to miss out because I confused the website with an advanced calculus exam.

    5Dimes Bonuses and Extras

5Dimes offers a matching bonus on initial deposits of 20 or 50 percent. However, there is a catch in that you have to make the deposits via one of their third party money dealers, meaning credit cards need not apply. It's kind of like Ed McMahon telling you you've won a million dollars if you fill out all these forms, and by the way, here are some magazines from some of our friends. Sign up for them and win!

    5Dimes Casino

The 5Dimes Casino offers Blackjack, Video Poker and Slots, but there is no Texas Hold 'Em, which is the game of choice for online poker players. They also have horse racing and my favorite option of all, playing the lottery. Imagine using the site to win the Kansas lotto, flying into Kansas and telling everyone you're actually from California. Truly this is a great idea.

    5Dimes Verdict

5Dimes has some unique betting options, and although it is a poorly constructed site navigationally, it mimics the Las Vegas style betting boards, which can be fun for online gamblers. 5Dimes is a trusted online sportsbook and you will never have to worry about payouts.
