Swansea City – A Closer Look:
Swansea enters the weekend in 17th place in the 20-team league after six games. They have just one win, a draw and four losses for four points with five goals scored and 10 allowed. Their only win of the season came on opening day when they managed to down newly-promoted Burnley City 1-0 away. Their other point was earned in a 2-2 draw at home with Chelsea. They’ve lost the last two outings, both to Manchester City, as the league leaders beat them in the League Cup and Premier League action a week ago. They’ve also been beaten at home by newly-promoted Hull city. Swansea can’t blame their poor form on injuries since midfielder Nathan Dyer is the only player on the injury list and he’s expected back in mid-November.
Liverpool – A Closer Look:
Manager Juergen Klopp has Liverpool firing on all cylinders at the moment. They enter round seven in fourth place with 13 points from four wins, a draw and a loss. They’ve scored 16 goals and allowed nine against. The Reds’ only defeat was a surprising 2-0 away loss to Burnley. Liverpool has now won three consecutive league matches with recent wins over Hull, Chelsea and reigning Premier League champions Leicester City. They also thumped Burton 5-0 and Derby County 3-0 in the English League Cup, but are still five points back of first-place Manchester City. Liverpool has done well against their main rivals so far this year as they’ve also beaten Arsenal 4-3 away and drew 1-1 in London against Tottenham. Klopp has a relatively healthy squad to choose from, but midfielder Sheyi Ojo is still out while defender Mamadou Sakho has returned to training. However, defender Joe Gomez is out with an Achilles problem.
Swansea City vs Liverpool – Takeaway:
Liverpool appears to be a legitimate title contender this season while Swansea will need some luck to stay out of the relegation zone. Liverpool has earned some excellent results against some top teams this campaign and can’t afford to drop points to the likes of Swansea.
